TOPSHELF MAGAZINE INTERVIEW
I was interviewed for the February issue of TopShelf Magazine. The subject of the interview is my reflections on the three types of publishing I have experienced: Self-publishing (“Made in China”), major publisher (Random House–the “Mrs. Kaplan” series), and independent publisher (Black Opal Books–“Sister-in-Law”). I also have my picture on the front cover, though I doubt that will sell any extra copies. (James Rollins was on the December/January cover. Now that probably sold a few.)
MRS. KAPLAN DISAPPEARS (TEMPORARILY)
Because Random House was publishing the “Mrs. Kaplan” books only in digital editions, and I wanted to have print copies available as well (too many people have told me they “just don’t do digital”), I have parted ways with RH. Until I sign Mrs. K with a new publisher, she has, unfortunately, disappeared from Amazon and other booksellers. But I’m confident she’ll be back soon.
Meanwhile, a third Mrs. Kaplan story is almost ready. I hope it receives the same warm welcome the first two did.
AND TO LIGHTEN THINGS UP A BIT:
A writer died and was given the option of going to heaven or hell.
She decided to check out each place first. As the writer descended into the fiery pits, she saw row upon row of writers chained to their desks in a steaming sweatshop. As they worked, they were repeatedly whipped with thorny lashes.
“Oh my,” said the writer. “Let me see heaven now.”
A few moments later, as she ascended into heaven, she saw rows of writers, chained to their desks in a steaming sweatshop. As they worked, they, too, were whipped with thorny lashes.
“Wait a minute,” said the writer. “This is just as bad as hell!”
“Oh no, it’s not,” replied an unseen voice. “Here, your work gets published.”
